Whale/dolphin conservation

As part of our company's social enterprise vision, in 2009 founder and director of HHC Ray Thorpe financed the purchase of a 45 foot yacht to be used for the promotion of dolphin and whale conservation, named Migaloo 2 after the famous white whale. The boat is skippered by filmmaker and conservationist Dean Jefferys.

The following is a video taken on board the Migaloo 2 which went viral on the internet as viewers were enthralled by what sounds like a whale replying 'I love you' through its blowhole!

The following is from Dean Jefferys, skipper of the Migaloo 2:

"I’ve know Ray Thorpe (the founder of the Happy Herb Companyfor many years when there was only one Happy Herb Shop in Nimbin. Ray hired a small yacht about 8 years ago that we sailed in around Hervey Bay with the whales. I teamed up with techno wiz Michael Kelly Gleeson and organised live streaming from the yacht, this was even before Youtube. I talked with Ray about expanding the vision of marine conservation and getting a yacht that I could manage and develop marine conservation campaigns around. That yacht is Migaloo 2. Migaloo 2 is a 45 ft fiberglass ketch bought 3 years ago by Ray with the plan it be used for raising awareness on marine conservation issues."

Sailing the Winds of Change - 2012 and Beyond has been the biggest campaign so far lasting 7 months and sailing around 2,500 kilometres. Future trips are in the planning stage again sailing north  from Byron Bay with the whale migration probably to Hervey Bay and the Outer Barrier reef.

Sailing the Winds of Change will be screened locally soon. For more information, to join the mailing list and to see video clips of the trip see www.migaloo2.com
